When to bring us in

Systems that have grown over years, accumulated technical debt, a carve-out with a fixed separation date, unstable operations or a fault that nobody can pin down. For each of these five situations, we show how to recognise it and how we approach it.

In short

FlixConsulting supports large enterprises, public authorities and organisations in critical infrastructure (KRITIS) in five situations: modernising legacy IT landscapes, reducing technical debt, restructuring and carve-outs, stabilising critical phases and resolving complex faults. We analyse the situation, define a target state and deliver it together with your teams.

Challenge

Modernising legacy IT landscapes

Modernising a legacy IT landscape means capturing the current state and dependencies, defining a target architecture for data centre, network, cloud and operations, and dividing the path there into phases. FlixConsulting plans each phase with a rollback plan and has it accepted individually. This protects ongoing operations. At the end, your team runs the new environment itself.

View challenge
How to recognise it
  • Every site, data centre and platform is built differently. Standards exist only on paper.
  • Hardware and software are reaching end of life. Nobody can reliably assess the impact of replacing them.
  • Changes take a long time because dependencies between systems are not documented.
Challenge

Reducing technical debt

Technical debt is the accumulated legacy that makes every change more expensive and more risky: missing documentation, manual processes, outdated systems and knowledge held by only a few individuals. FlixConsulting makes it visible, assesses it by risk and reduces it step by step, for example with a source of truth, automation and versioned operations knowledge.

View challenge
How to recognise it
  • Network, IP and data centre data is kept in Excel lists. Nobody knows for sure which version is current.
  • Configurations and deployments are applied by hand and are hard to trace.
  • Runbooks are missing or out of date. During incidents, the team asks the few people who know the system.
Challenge

Restructuring & carve-out

In an IT carve-out, the IT of a business unit is separated from its previous organisation. FlixConsulting records networks, systems, interfaces and contracts, plans the separation for the fixed separation date and describes the transitional services with SLAs. The goal is an independent, segmented infrastructure for the new unit with clear responsibilities.

View challenge
How to recognise it
  • A business unit is being sold or spun off, and the separation date has already been set.
  • Networks, sites and applications are shared. It is unclear where the boundary lies.
  • Licences, maintenance contracts and service provider contracts are in the name of the previous organisation.
Challenge

Stabilising critical phases

A phase is critical when operations or a project can no longer be reliably controlled, for example because of frequent incidents, unclear responsibilities or an upcoming audit. FlixConsulting produces a situation assessment, implements immediate measures and then embeds processes, SLAs and monitoring. On request, we take on coordination roles for a transitional period.

View challenge
How to recognise it
  • Incidents are piling up, and the causes remain unclear.
  • Teams and service providers work side by side. Nobody feels responsible for the overall picture.
  • An ISO 27001 audit, an EN 50600 assessment or a regulatory review is coming up, and the evidence is not sufficient.
Challenge

Troubleshooting & task force

Troubleshooting complex faults means finding the cause across network, systems and applications instead of fixing symptoms one by one. FlixConsulting works as a task force with your teams, service providers and vendors, proves the cause with data and makes sure that fixes are tested, implemented and documented.

View challenge
How to recognise it
  • The same fault keeps coming back, even though it has been fixed several times.
  • Network, system and application teams each see the cause with the others.
  • After a migration or an update, clients, applications or connections behave unexpectedly.
Getting started

How we start in each situation

Situation First step First result Engagement model
01 Modernising legacy IT landscapes Current-state analysis of sites, systems and dependencies Target state with a migration path and the sequence of steps Architecture consulting, then Delivery & project management
02 Reducing technical debt Review of documentation, data and manual processes Prioritised list of legacy issues with measures Architecture consulting, then Delivery & project management
03 Restructuring & carve-out Dependency analysis of networks, systems and contracts Separation plan with dependencies, transitional services and rollback plans Delivery & project management
04 Stabilising critical phases Situation assessment based on interviews, incidents, tickets and monitoring Prioritised risks with immediate measures and clear responsibilities Task force & interim
05 Troubleshooting & task force Narrowing down the fault using logs, monitoring and tickets Proven cause with an action plan Task force & interim

Four steps from current state to stable operations

  1. Analysis

Make the current state, dependencies and risks transparent.

  2. Target architecture

A viable target state with a realistic migration path.

  3. Delivery

Hands-on implementation, project management and technical troubleshooting.

  4. Handover to operations

Documented, automated and manageable by your team.

Questions about these challenges

What if several situations apply at once?

That is common. A modernisation exposes technical debt, or a migration stalls and needs troubleshooting. Together with you, we decide which risk is most urgent, start there and plan the further steps as a connected whole.

Do we need a defined project to get started?

No. You can also start with an analysis or a situation assessment. Each phase ends with agreed results. You then decide on the next step.

Which organisations do you work for?

Large enterprises, public authorities and organisations in critical infrastructure (KRITIS), in sectors including industry, logistics, mobility, banking and the public sector. We do not name clients publicly, only industries.

Which situation applies to you?

In an initial call we assess your situation and propose a first step.
