Hybrid target architecture for data centre, edge and cloud
Connect your own data centre, edge sites and cloud according to consistent rules: secure, operable and described as code.
- Industry
- Mobility & transport
A hybrid target architecture connects data centre, edge sites and cloud according to consistent rules for network, platform, security and operations. It is based on a workload analysis, vendor and feasibility comparisons, a technology roadmap and infrastructure as code. FlixConsulting designs such architectures and implements them with Kubernetes, Terraform and Ansible.
Where organisations stand
- Applications run virtualised in your own data centre, at edge sites and in the cloud. There is no common target architecture.
- Network connectivity, container platforms and security requirements are handled differently in each environment.
- Clear compliance and operating rules for running cloud applications are missing.
How we work
- 01
Analysis
We record workloads, dependencies, availability requirements and existing platforms, and examine open options in feasibility analyses.
- 02
Target architecture
We design the architecture and technology roadmap for virtualisation, container platform, network connectivity and high availability, based on vendor and hardware comparisons.
- 03
Delivery
We build platforms and connections, for example Kubernetes in your own data centre or as AWS EKS, connected via IPsec VPN and BGP and described with Terraform and Ansible.
- 04
Handover to operations
We define compliance requirements, permissions and operating processes for the cloud applications and hand over to your team.
What changes afterwards
- A documented target architecture connects data centre, edge and cloud according to consistent rules.
- Workloads are placed according to traceable criteria for availability and compliance.
- Platforms are described as code and are therefore reproducible.

Questions about this use case
Run Kubernetes yourself or use a managed service such as AWS EKS?
That depends on compliance requirements, your data, in-house operational expertise and availability requirements. We assess both options for your workloads. We record the decision and its criteria in the target architecture.
Do existing virtualisation platforms have to be replaced?
Not necessarily. The target architecture defines which workloads remain on VMware ESXi, Proxmox VE or KVM and which move to containers or to the cloud. The roadmap describes the sequence.
